I Slay, You Slay, but She Really Slays.

Not a crazy busy week, yet here I am writing this post in the early hours of Monday. How did that happen?

Anyways, for those of you who visit this blog for the fist time, I introduced The Weekly here. In a nutshell, TheWeekly will feature two or three things that I am happy about and want to share with everyone. I am also hoping that this would be a feature we can interact. I tell you mine, and you tell me yours!

Without further ado, here is my top two for the week:

My #1 “Formation” by Beyoncé. Well, she actually released this song last week, but I had already posted my two picks by the time it came out. I think most of you know by now, but I will briefly write about what happened.

She dropped this song and a video unexpectedly the day before the Super Bowl 50, and she performed the next day at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show.

Her visually striking video takes on post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans, racial pride, police brutality, the “Black Lives Matter” movement, and so much more. Her live performance the next day was also a celebration of cultural heritage, bold and pretty much on fire. So, people went crazy. Some people despised it, in fact, hated it so much that there was a plan for an anti-Beyoncé protest in front of the NFL offices (I don’t know if it actually took place). And some people loved it – including me.  I think, she wanted to make a bold statement, and she did it superbly. Reactions to the song and her perfomance were even more fascinating to follow.

By the way, you can download the “Formation” from Tidal for free. The link is here.

My #2 is the SNL parody about the reaction to Beyoncé 🙂 I know, I know, now you are thinking if I am obsessed with her! Not really – I like her a lot, but I am not a super fan. But, this Saturday Night Live parody was so hilarious that I had to pick as my #2.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
