In Istanbul, spring is in full bloom – it is sunny and warm, trees seem to think it is already April and are full of cherry blossoms, stray cats and dogs comfortably sleeping under the sun everywhere, and people appear to be in a better mood.
For those of you who visit this blog for the fist time, I introduced The Weekly here. In a nutshell, TheWeekly will feature two or three things that I am happy about and want to share with everyone. I am also hoping that this would be a feature we can interact. I tell you mine, and you tell me yours!
Without further ado, here is my two for the week:
#1 Cappadocia! I booked a trip there this week and I will spend a few days in the area in late April. It is one of the most spectacular places on earth, and I am kind of ashamed of not having seen it before. Calling New York home for years, when I came back to Turkey the only thing I wanted to do was to spend time with my family, so I could never make time for it.
Cappadocia, in Central Anatolia, is Turkey’s most visually striking region, and its Göreme Valley is a Unesco World Heritage site. The area gets its other-worldly appearance from the erosion of the soft volcanic rocks. Mushroom shaped, pinnacled, capped and conic shaped formations, known as “fairy chimneys”, have all been sculpted by erosion throughout the ages. Humans inhabited the area dating back to the 4th Century and they built subterranean honeycombed caves, living quarters, public spaces and even houses of worship. It is truly a magnificent place. So, there is much to explore in the area and I cannot wait to go.
#2 Chape’s Blog. Since the Blogging 101 class, I have been following Chape, who is a personal trainer and has a wonderful blog where he posts workouts, videos, playlists, and much more. His blog, as well as the unexpected warm weather here, motivated me to get out of the winter funk and get active. So, this week I finally started going to the gym again 💪💪
What is making you happy this week?

Great list! New yarn sounds exciting. I tried knitting many years ago and wasn’t a big success, but somehow every winter I get the urge to knit. Maybe one day 🙂

Try crocheting. It’s easier. I only knit a tiny bit but love to crochet.

Fun post! I have a page on my blog devoted to this very idea. It’s so wonderful to put a spotlight on the good things in our lives.
I’m excited about a vacation, too, that we have planned in April. And I’m happy to have some free time today to work in the garden and play on WordPress! Have a great day!

That photo of Cappadocia is beautiful. I have heard the name, but I guess I never saw a picture!
I am happy this week for the rain storms we are having in California. The second one in two days arrived this morning with thunder and lightning, which we don’t much get. Hopefully, it will help some against the drought.
I like your idea of this category. This weary old world and its people need some happiness and positivity!

Thank you! Yes, we really need some positivity, it is crazy out there. I do hope you get a lot of rain in CA this year, it must have been very difficult last year.
