Bliss

I have experienced moments of bliss a few times in my life during long training runs, mostly in the wee hours of the morning running in the park, in perfect crisp and weightless spring weather.  It was a feeling of being completely one with the universe – at that moment I was the universe,  the universe was me, and time did not exist.  Some call this a runner’s high, I call it bliss.

Hard to capture that, impossible to re-create it. So instead, I am posting a photo of another moment that made me reminisce about my bliss. When I had a bite from this humble roti sardin in Penang, Malaysia, I lost my words… For a few seconds, the world was alright.

Roti canai is a type of Indian flatbread and has many varieties. It is a popular breakfast dish in Malaysia, usually sold by hawkers. I’ve tried a few different ones, but roti sardin, made with canned sardines and onions, was my absolute favorite. It is served with dal, which is a sort of spiced lentil curry, as well as other curries. I had this one in a 24-hour corner restaurant kind of a place and I went back every day to eat it.

  1. Ha! You are a real foodie! Moments of bliss from a food, especially in a place or a dish you don’t get every day, like when you are traveling. So nice. Mmm I love dal!

  2. I very much relate with your idea of bliss. I had a photo of food too as my main take on bliss… I relish and savour the taste of good foodies and they are simple every day pleasures that I am always thankful for.
